What is PAT Testing (Portable Appliance Testing)?
The law requires your business to test all of your portable appliances regularily to ensure that it is safe for staff and customers. A portable appliance is any electrical equipment which derives its power source via a flexcible cable and plug top.
What is a Portable Appliance?
Portable Appliances are items of equipment which can be moved whilst connected to the supply
Moveable Equipment of less than 18kg which also may be equipped with rollers or castors to facilitate relocation
Stationary Equipment is probably in excess of 18kg and is not provided with a carrying handle such as a washing machine.
Fixed Equipment is a machine or appliance which is fastened or secured in a specified location.
What does PAT Testing Involve?
Each appliance will be tested for an earth bond resistence and insulation and where necessary earth leakage / Run tests. Each appliance is visually checked, plugs will be removed and checked. All plugs will be inspected for:

Resillience and BS1363A marking

Correct Fuse rating and BS1362 marking

Damage and/or Overheating
-
Insulated Pins
-
Correct use of Cord Grips, Correct Wiring

Shock Testing
We will never turn off critical electrical appliances without a member of staff being consulted first.
If appliances are faulty they WILL be removed from service immediately and you will be informed verbally and in your documentation.
Certification and documentation
All test results will be coded and documented with paper and electronic copies available. you will receive a professional PAT Testing report. Reports are provided free of charge in a bound folder (where appropriate) and can also be provided via email or disk if required
