FIXED TESTING/PERIODIC INSPECTION & TESTING

Fixed Installation Testing involves the testing of electrical services and systems that conduct electricity around a building. It covers all of the hard wiring in a building and includes items such as main panels, distribution boards, lighting, socket outlets, air conditioning and other fixed plant.

Fixed Installation Testing involves a performing a sequence of rigorous visual inspections and electrical tests on all systems in the building.

The process of inspection and testing in principle is the same regardless of premises. Inspection should always come before testing. We would have a schedule of items to inspect from the earthing arrangements to any premises right through to the condition of switches and sockets etc.

It should be noted that periods of power shutdown will be needed to complete a full inspection and test of the electrical circuits. 

Immediately dangerous conditions should be rectified or reported without delay to the relevant duty holder. Other recommendations and observations should be reported using a numbering system to indicate the severity of each observation.

The testing process would include checks to the insulation resistance, continuity, polarity, earth fault loop impedance and RCD times to mention but a few. 

The results and extent of periodic inspection and testing will be recorded on a Periodic Inspection Report and provided to the person ordering the inspection. The report will include the extent of the work, limitations, details of defects and dangerous conditions, and schedules of inspections and test results.  All test results and inspections would be recorded and provided in report format to the client. We can deliver these both electronically and written.

NORTHANTS PAT TESTING specialise in providing electrical Fix wire testing services and do not carry out remedial works. This means we will have no interest in carrying out the remedial actions detailed in the Periodic Inspection Report and this may act as an assurance to the client that any observations and recommendations detailed will be objective and unbiased.

This report can then be used to obtain a quote from any electrician or electrical company to perform the work highlighted in the quote.
